Introduction

Captain is the primary playable protagonist in ANANTA and the leader of the Anti-Chaos Directorate (A.C.D.) Task Force. Players can choose between a male or female version of the Captain, with the story and main missions remaining largely the same for both, though dialogue and interactions may subtly differ. The Captain is an Esper — also called an Infinite Trigger — with supernatural abilities tied to Chaos energy. They arrive in Nova City with little memory of their past, tasked with investigating and neutralizing Chaos-related incidents threatening the city.

Personality

The Captain is driven, resourceful, and thrill-seeking. Despite carrying the weight of the city's safety as the head of the ACD, they are not all serious — they enjoy a good challenge and are willing to push boundaries. Their amnesia-like unfamiliarity with Nova City at the start of the story adds a discovery-focused dimension to their character, as they must piece together both the mysteries of Chaos and their own past.

Appearance

The Captain's design reflects both practicality and action-ready style, suited for combat and high-speed urban traversal. The male version features short dark hair, a black coat over a white button-down shirt with a blue tie, black pants, black gloves, blue eyes, and a blue armband on the right arm with an ID on the left.

The female version of the Captain was confirmed playable in the full game by developers in a Famitsu interview (September 2025), sharing the same core story with subtle dialogue differences.

Role in the Story

The Captain arrives in Nova City as the newly appointed leader of the ACD, an organisation tasked exclusively with Chaos-related investigations. The ACD was later shut down under circumstances connected to Chaos events, after which the Captain was recruited by the Nova City Crime Agency (N.C.C.A.). Their personal arc revolves around uncovering lost memories and the connection between those memories and their Chaos powers. The story can also be replayed from multiple character perspectives, unlocking new ways to experience events in Nova City.

Abilities & Combat

The Captain is the most combat-versatile character in the game. As an Esper with Chaos liquid powers, they generate organic tendril-like appendages used for both traversal and devastating combat — likened to the powers seen in the Prototype and Venom franchises. They also serve as the team nexus, enabling real-time switching between crew members.

Chaos Liquid — Generates Chaos-infused organic tendrils for grappling between skyscrapers and area-of-effect combat attacks, with no stamina restrictions during traversal.

Swinging / Traversal — The only character capable of Chaos-based city swinging, providing unmatched mobility across Nova City.

Telekinesis — Can pull objects from the environment and weaponize them mid-combat.

Martial arts — Enhanced punches and fluid combo strings that go beyond the baseline system shared by all characters.

Firearms — Access to guns and other ranged weapons for versatile combat range.

Character switching — Serves as the team nexus, enabling real-time swapping to up to three other crew members during missions.

Intel
#1

The Captain is also referred to as the "Investigator" in early ACD documentation seen in pre-release materials.

#2

Their Chaos liquid abilities are compared by the community to Spider-Man (traversal), Venom and Prototype (combat tendrils), and symbiote aesthetics.

#3

The female Captain was confirmed playable in the full release — both versions share the core story with subtle dialogue differences.

#4

The Captain's amnesia-style origin and their unknown connection to the ACD's shutdown is a central mystery of ANANTA's main narrative.
